FLOATKOAT-2003
Description:
Floatkoat is designed for use as a rust preventative in tanks used for saltwater ballast. It is a floatation type rust preventative and deposits itself as a protective film on adjacent tank surfaces during ballasting and deballasting operations. Sandblasting or other elaborate surface preparation is not necessary. Floatkoat may be applied directly to mill scale and tight rust.

Surface Preparation:
Floatkoat requires minimum surface preparation, but loose mill scale, rust peeling paint and debris should be removed before application. Water blasting is an economical method of removing heavy rust scale.
Application Spray:
A crosshatched spray coat is recommended to provide a wet film on new steel. On old rusty steel several spray coats may be necessary for a penetration of rust scale.
Floatation:
For best results apply spray coat to overhead plating and bottom surfaces before ballasting the tank. The initial application of floatkoat should be sufficient to provide a layer of 3/8 - 1/2-inch film floating on the surface. A thicker layer may be required if the tanks are severely rusted. A minimum of three ballasting cycles should be made with one to two hours between the end of one cycle and the beginning of the next.
